BlackBerry earns two Govie Awards for outstanding security

BlackBerry earns two Govie Awards for outstanding security

As noted on the Inside BlackBerry Business Blog:

This week, Security Products magazine – a media outlet for security professionals – recognized BlackBerry’s strength and expertise in providing secure mobile solutions for the public sector with two Govies Government Security Awards. BlackBerry was honored in the categories of Data Security and Access Control for BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10 (BES10) and Secure Work Space for iOS and Android respectively.

The Govies honor companies for providing outstanding security products and solutions to federal, state and local governments in categories critical to security executives and decision makers. BlackBerry has been in the business of protecting governments’ mobile communications for more than a decade, and these awards showcase our ability to meet the demands of organizations with the highest security demands. We take great pride in the fact that the public sector trusts us for secure mobile technology – including all seven of the G7 governments and 10 out of 10 of the largest global enterprises in each of the pharmaceutical, law firm and automotive industries.

The awards come to BlackBerry on top of their already great track record in the government space. Back in March Secure Work Space for iOS and Android became Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2 certified meaning, security-conscious organizations, including U.S. and Canadian government agencies, can confidently separate sensitive corporate data from personal content.

Immediately following the FIPS certification, BlackBerry 10 became the first and only mobility solution to earn the Defense Information Systems Agency’s (DISA) coveted Full Operational Capability (FOC) designation to run on U.S. Department of Defense Networks.

BlackBerry Malaysia will focus on the government and enterprise sectors in efforts to move forward with its business development, Managing Director for Indo-China, Ben Quirin, said Tuesday.

Previously, BlackBerry Malaysia’s main focus was the retail segment, he said.

“The government and enterprise sectors will be our key point in Malaysia in order to get more customers and train our partners in technical aspects to enable them to understand our focus.

“The software and hardware development as well as services products will be our main focus to ensure that our customers from the two sectors are always associated with us,” he told reporters in Kuala Lumpur after announcing BlackBerry Malaysia’s development plan for Malaysia.

Ben said the competitors’ market share for both sectors only represent under 25 per cent of where Blackberry stands in the government and enterprise sectors today.

On top of that, it will still have all the normal functions of a typical smartphone, such as playing different forms of media and games, as well as downloading consumer applications.

We have reached out to BlackBerry for confirmation on this story and they had the following comment:

“This investment and planned collaboration aligns with the reliability, security, and versatility of BlackBerry’s end-to-end solutions – from the embedded QNX operating system powering complex medical devices to secure cloud-based networks to instantaneous information sharing over BBM Protected and will include a device as well.”

BBM Sees 113 Million Users and 500,000 Channels

BlackBerry has announced 113 Million registered BBM users, with monthly active users remaining at 85 Million. Additionally, BlackBerry announced they’ve seen 500,000 BBM Channels created.
